The Israeli company “Redfine” has produced the world’s first whole steak made from vegetable materials using 3D printers.
Euronews said that a massive lunch was recently organized in London to taste the “new vegetarian meat”, where 50 chefs, restaurateurs and food critics were invited.
Most of the attendees were impressed with the quality of the new meat, and among those in attendance was Daniel Galmish, Michelin-starred chef, who said: “I tried the lamb kofta and found the way they could recreate the texture and flavor was interesting. Although the flavor is not strong. Like regular meat, but I like the way they recreate the juiciness and the texture is almost there.”
The new plant-based meat production is part of Redfin’s efforts to persuade meat eaters to reduce their red meat consumption, after the company’s research and development team studied real cuts of meat and developed an artificial intelligence system to simulate the texture of the meat.
The company confirmed that it uses a set of patented technologies and plant ingredients, including chickpeas, and there are natural colors extracted from fruits and vegetables that give meat the typical color known in animal products.
Redfin plans to open a new plant in the coming months in the Netherlands, which is scheduled to produce 5,000 tons of new meat annually. Meat is new to the menu of dishes that it offers.
