A recent study revealed that mosquitoes track humans based on signals that come out of them, including smells and those who wear clothes of specific colors, unlike other colors that they repel..

A recent study conducted by researchers in the Department of Biology at the University of Washington revealed that mosquitoes, after detecting carbon dioxide, a stimulant gas released by humans, fly towards red, orange, black and cyan colors..

The researchers pointed out that mosquitoes ignore the trend towards green, purple, blue and white colors, according to the study published in the scientific journal “Nature”..

The researchers believe this helps explain how mosquitoes find hosts, given that human skin emits a strong red-orange signal to the insects’ eyes.

The researchers tracked mosquitoes into miniature testing rooms where they spread out specific odors and displayed different types of visual patterns, such as a human hand or a colored dot..

In addition, when mosquitoes were not exposed to any odor stimuli, the flying insects largely ignored a point at the bottom of the room, regardless of color.

But after being sprayed with carbon dioxide, the mosquitoes kept ignoring the dot, whether it was green, blue, or purple.

On the other hand, the mosquitoes flew towards the red, orange, black or cyan dots.

She emphasized that knowing the colors that attract mosquitoes could help in the future in making better repellents to keep mosquitoes away and avoid their bites.
