Dr. Vladimir Polibuk, an immunologist and allergist, revealed the body temperature of a sick person, which reflects the processes taking place in him.

In an interview with Radio “Sputnik”, the specialist indicates that high body temperature is one of the ways the body uses to fight infection, and he explained how this method works.

He says, “Cytokines determine the work of the immune system. Cytokines are molecules secreted by the body at the moment the cells of the immune system are active. The immune system interacts with viral or bacterial infections, and cytokines enter the central nervous system, where the center of temperature regulation is, and from there the body receives a signal that it feels. The need to raise the temperature, because there is a process underway to fight infection, and since bacteria and viruses can work and multiply in the body at a certain temperature, the high body temperature prevents their reproduction.

The fact that the human body temperature does not rise when infected with cold diseases indicates that the immune system practically does not react to infection. But on the other hand, the excessive response of the immune system has serious consequences for the body as well.

He says, “When large quantities of cytokines are produced, the body temperature rises to 39-40 degrees Celsius, which negatively affects the work of the internal organs, especially the work of the heart and blood vessels. It may lead to a defect in the work of the heart and then stops.”

He adds, patients who suffer from a high temperature should be subject to permanent medical supervision, until it drops to a non-dangerous level.

The specialist reveals the “ideal” temperature at which the body effectively fights infection, and says, “This temperature ranges between 37 and 38.5 degrees Celsius. Therefore, doctors always recommend not to take fever-reducing drugs if the body temperature is below the upper limit. Because the body is in this state.
