Activists on social networking sites called on Jordanians to implement the “Marry me without a dowry” campaign, which was recently launched by Lebanese women.
Activists said that this campaign is suitable for Jordan in light of its difficult economic conditions, high unemployment, poverty and spinsterhood rates, and that it will constitute an incentive for young people to marry.
The “dowry” constitutes a large part of the costs of marriage in Jordan, and has become a burden on those who are about to get married, especially as they have to provide housing and its necessities, wedding costs, and other obligations.
It is noteworthy that a group of young women in Lebanon launched a campaign and hashtag entitled #Marry me without a dowry, with the aim of contributing to addressing the problem of high spinsterhood in Lebanon.
Young women believed that this campaign came after the emigration of young people and the high prices, which increases the task for them to secure the dowry necessary for marriage, in addition to other expenses and expenses.
The “hashtag” is witnessing an interaction in favor of the idea by commentators who said that this idea actually contributes to urging young people to marry and reducing the rates of spinsterhood among girls.
