“Civil Status” launches new facilities for Jerusalemites

The Civil Status and Passports Department, in coordination with the Jordan Post Company and the Chief Justice Department, launched new additional facilities for Jerusalemites.

Acting Director General of the Civil Status and Passports Department, Talal Al-Fayez, said, on Monday, that the launch of the new additional facilities for Jerusalemites comes from the high royal directives that always call for alleviating Jerusalemites in support of their steadfastness and protecting the Arab identity of the Holy City of Jerusalem and facilitating and relieving them and providing their transactions with ease and ease.

Al-Fayez added that under the new facilities, Jerusalemites can submit applications for issuing and renewing their passports at the Sharia Court in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, without specifying a specific age for the applicant.

A Jordanian citizen who holds a national number and a civil record can benefit from the facilities, and apply to the Sharia Court in Al-Quds Al-Sharif with a request to issue or register vital facts (marriage certificate, divorce certificate, birth certificate, death certificate) as well as accept a request to renew the family book through the Sharia Court In Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

As for the Jordanian citizen who holds a national number and is married to a Jerusalemite citizen (holding a Jerusalem ID), he can apply for the issuance and renewal of passports for himself and his children through the Sharia Court in Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

The temporary passport holder of the “West Bank” who is married to a Jerusalemite woman who holds a Jerusalemite identity card was allowed to apply exclusively to the Sharia Court in Al-Quds Al-Sharif for a passport renewal, provided that he holds a Palestinian identity and the personal number is recorded on the temporary passport.

The additional facilities also allowed women who are married to a Jerusalemite citizen and hold a temporary “West Bank” passport to apply exclusively to the Sharia Court in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, provided that they hold a Palestinian identity and that the personal number is indicated on their temporary passport.

Al-Fayez added that the mandate of the Sharia Court in Al-Quds Al-Sharif to accept transactions for the issuance and renewal of passports for Jerusalemites because the Sharia Court in Al-Quds Al-Sharif is an integral part of the formation of Jordanian courts and follows the Jordanian judicial system and is subject in its procedures and management to the provisions of Jordanian law, indicating that Jerusalemites can submit their transactions to the Sharia Court. He pointed out that this measure came with the aim of facilitating and relieving Jerusalemites.

After that, the Jordan Post Company, through Its partners in Jerusalem transfer those transactions and deliver them to the Department of Civil Status and Passports to audit them and verify that they meet the legal requirements so that the required documents can be issued and re-delivered to the Jordanian Post to return them to the Sharia Court in Al-Quds Al-Sharif.

Al-Fayez praised the efforts of the judge and staff of the Jerusalem Sharia Court in terms of their implementation of instructions and procedures with accuracy and proficiency.
