On Sunday, King Abdullah II met with Deputy Assistant to the US President and White House Coordinator for the Middle East and North Africa, Brett McGurk, in the presence of Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II.
In the meeting, the King stressed the importance of intensifying efforts to push for calm, reducing escalation in the Palestinian territories, and stopping any unilateral measures that would destabilize and undermine the chances of achieving peace.
The King stressed the need to re-launch negotiations between the Palestinians and the Israelis to achieve a just and comprehensive peace, based on the two-state solution, in a way that guarantees the establishment of an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state on the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The King indicated that Jordan will continue to make efforts to protect the holy places in Al-Quds Al-Sharif, based on the Hashemite Custodianship over them.
