The Grand Mufti of the Sultanate of Oman, Sheikh Ahmed Al-Khalili, opposed his country’s decision to open the airspace for Israeli planes. “We received an unimaginable surprise, the decision to open the airspace that the Zionist entity’s planes will be allowed to use,” he said.

And the Civil Aviation Authority in the Sultanate of Oman announced, on Thursday, the opening of its airspace to all air carriers in the world that meet the conditions for crossing Omani airspace.

And the Mufti added, in a message he posted on his Twitter account, “We had hoped that the steadfast stance would continue, rejecting any relationship with that entity from our proud sultanate. How proud we were of that.”

The Israeli occupation was actively seeking to obtain the approval of the Sultanate of Oman to open its airspace to Israeli flights in order to shorten the distance and time of aircraft flying in the airspace.

And Sheikh Al-Khalili expressed his fear that “this step will be followed by other steps,” calling for a review of the account in the step, claiming that it is a national and popular demand.

Jordanian activists interacted with Sheikh Al-Khalili’s message, and welcomed his refusal and warning against normalization with the Israeli occupation.

Trade union activist Maysara Malas wrote, commenting on his Twitter account, “How much do we need in our country for such outstanding, advising men.”

Journalist Yasser Al-Za’tara Habr commented on his Twitter account, “A position that deserves salutations from the Mufti; God save him.”

And the “Israel Today” newspaper claimed months ago that “the reason for the Omani refusal was Iranian pressure exerted on the authorities in Oman, and this pressure was likely to have been accompanied by explicit threats.”

And the Hebrew newspaper reported at the time that “Oman put forward the following conditions for Israeli aviation; It is for the Sultanate’s authorities to be able to examine the Israeli aircraft that are forced to land at the airport in Oman, and to grant the license for commercial and civil flights only, and the Sultanate has the full right to freeze the license according to its interests, in addition to the condition that Israeli aircraft do not land at the airport in Oman except in emergency cases. .

Arab activists also interacted in support of Mufti Al-Khalili’s position through hashtags such as #Statement _ of _ Sheikh _ Al-Khalili _ represents me #Omanis_against_the_Zionist_flight .
