On Wednesday, the Turkish government announced aid worth $100,000 per episode to producers of popular TV series in the country that promote Turkey, its culture and cuisine.

Türkiye, which is the third global exporter of series, seeks to focus on these productions to promote tourism there, according to what Culture Minister Mehmet Ersoy said during the presentation of the project.

Ersoy praised what he described as “the largest Turkish learning session” directed to a billion viewers, recalling that Turkish series generate a billion dollars in export revenues to 170 countries on all continents, which is “a record level in history.”

In order to benefit from this assistance, television works must contribute to “promoting Turkey and spreading its language” and be able to be exported to “markets interested in tourism in Turkey,” among the specified criteria, according to what the minister said, without giving further details.

Turkish series are particularly popular in the Gulf countries and are often dubbed in Arabic, in addition to their spread in South America.

Ersoy revealed that the historical sites will be opened free of charge for filming the series there.

These series, which are considered an effective tool of Turkish “soft power,” contribute to polishing the country’s image and attracting tourists to it.
