The Peruvian Parliament voted, on Tuesday, in an emergency session to impeach acting President Jose Gehry, who faces two investigations on suspicion of abuse of power, weeks before the presidential elections scheduled for April 12.

The dismissal decision came with a majority of 75 votes, compared to 24 votes that rejected the decision, while three members abstained from voting.

Jerry is the seventh president to be impeached in Peru in ten years. He served as Speaker of Parliament until October, succeeding Dina Bolwarti, before assuming the duties of acting Presidency.

Parliament is scheduled to elect, on Wednesday, a new president who will automatically assume the position of acting President of the Republic until July 28, the date of the inauguration of the president who will be elected in April.

Jerry, 39 years old, is subject to two investigations: the first relates to suspicion of interference in the employment of nine women within his government, and the second relates to alleged crimes related to the abuse of power.
