Amman – American authorities said that three people were killed, including the suspect, in a shooting incident that occurred during a youth hockey match in Rhode Island, yesterday afternoon, Monday.
Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Gonsalves told reporters that three other victims were taken to the hospital in critical condition.
She added: “It appears that this incident was targeted, and may have resulted from a family dispute.”
Gonsalves did not provide details about the suspect or the ages of those killed, but she said that the two victims appeared to be adults, according to what was reported by the Associated Press.
Authorities said they are still trying to fully understand what happened and speak with witnesses.
The shooting occurred at the Dennis Lynch Lounge in Pawtucket, a few miles outside Providence, the state capital.
Outside the hall, crying families and high school hockey players still in sports uniforms could be seen hugging each other before boarding the bus to leave.
The roads surrounding the hall were closed, while police remained in force and helicopters were flying over the area.
Pawtucket, a city of less than 80,000 people, is located just north of Providence and under the Massachusetts border.
