Guterres calls on Israel to “immediately reverse” its measures in the West Bank

Ammon – United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called on the Israeli authorities to “immediately retract” their decision to resume land registration procedures in Area C of the occupied West Bank, warning that this step could lead to the stripping of Palestinians of their property and the expansion of Israeli control over the lands.

The spokesman for the Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, said in a statement issued on Monday that Guterres “condemns the Israeli government’s decision issued on February 15 to resume land registration procedures in Area C, following a Cabinet decision in May 2025,” considering that these measures are not only destabilizing, but also “illegal,” as previously confirmed by the International Court of Justice.

The Secretary-General warned that the current path on the ground “undermines the chances of a two-state solution,” reiterating that all Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, “do not enjoy any legal legitimacy and constitute a flagrant violation of international law and relevant United Nations resolutions.”

Guterres called on all parties to maintain the only path towards lasting peace, which is a negotiated solution based on two states, in accordance with Security Council resolutions and international law.
