Ammon – The mayor of the Moroccan municipality of Ksar El-Kebir, Mohamed Simo, announced the evacuation of more than 120,000 people as a result of the floods that recently swept the region.
He also pointed out that the return of some families to their homes is taking place gradually and slowly after the field conditions improve.
Al-Simo explained in a statement to Sputnik that specialized teams are still working to count the material and human losses, stressing that the state intervened quickly and with great logistical and human capabilities to protect lives and support those affected, in implementation of royal instructions.
He added that the government has allocated an urgent financial aid package to the affected families, which includes direct support worth 6,000 dirhams (about 600 dollars) for each family, in addition to 15,000 dirhams (1,500 dollars) to rehabilitate damaged homes and shops, and 140,000 dirhams (14,000 dollars) to rebuild homes that have completely collapsed.
It also launched comprehensive programs to compensate for losses in the agricultural and livestock sector, with a total financial envelope exceeding $300 million.
The Presidency of the Government called on the affected families to register their data with the local authorities to benefit from these supportive programs, as part of the state’s efforts aimed at rapid recovery and rebuilding the damaged infrastructure.
It is noteworthy that the Larache province recorded the largest number of evacuees, especially in the city of Ksar El-Kebir, which the authorities announced was completely evacuated in anticipation of possible floods, after cutting off water and electricity, in a step described as precautionary to avoid human losses, noting that the city’s population is approximately 120,000 people.
