The head of the French Financial Prosecution, Pascal Brach, announced in a statement that it conducted inspections on Monday morning in several places in Paris, especially at the Arab World Institute, as part of the investigation targeting its resigned president, Jack Lang, against the backdrop of his alleged financial ties to the American criminal Jeffrey Epstein, who is convicted of sex crimes.
On February 6, the National Financial Prosecution opened an investigation into suspicions of “money laundering as a result of aggravated tax evasion” targeting the former Socialist Minister and his daughter, Caroline Lang.
Although no charges have been brought against Lange at this stage, documents published by US justice mention his name 673 times in correspondence with Epstein.
“I have nothing to hide”
The raids took place at a time when Lang was bidding farewell to the institute’s employees. He said in his speech to the institute’s employees, “I am pleased to see the French judiciary begin work,” without explicitly referring to the raids, according to what was reported by an Agence France-Presse journalist who was attending the ceremony.
“I have nothing to hide,” Lang confirmed.
An investigation published by Mediapart on February 2 revealed that Carolyn Lang, along with Epstein, founded an offshore company based in the US Virgin Islands in 2016.
After this information was revealed, she resigned from her position as head of a union for independent film producers.
Lang, known for launching the “Festival of Music” that spread across the world, confirmed that the accusations against him are “baseless.”
