Ammon – The Bangladesh Nationalist Party achieved a landslide victory in the country’s first legislative elections since the 2024 protests that toppled Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
According to figures provided to the press by Electoral Commission Chief Secretary Akhtar Ahmed on Friday afternoon, the BNP won 212 seats out of 300, while the Jamaat-e-Islami-led coalition won 77 seats.
The participation rate in the elections reached 59.44 percent of the 127 million registered voters, which is slightly more than the average participation in previous elections.
It is expected that Tariq Rahman (60 years old), the heir to an ancient political dynasty, will hold the position of Prime Minister.
