Ammon – The lawyer for imprisoned former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan told the Supreme Court that his client has lost 85 percent of the sight in his right eye, an ordeal that adds to the legal and political challenges that Khan is already facing.
Khan (73 years old), who has been imprisoned since August 2023, is serving a 14-year prison sentence on corruption charges, in one of dozens of cases that he says were fabricated in order for the army to distance him from politics, which the army denies.
Khan’s lawyer, Salman Safdar, said in a report submitted yesterday, Thursday, and seen by Reuters, quoting the former cricket star turned politician, “He only has 15 percent of the sight left in his right eye.”
The fact-finding report indicated that Khan had been complaining of “constantly blurry and disoriented vision” since October 2025, but the prison authorities had not taken any action.
Safdar submitted the report after a two-hour meeting with Khan ordered by the Supreme Court, which set a February 16 deadline for the authorities to allow Khan to see his personal doctor to prepare the report on his condition.
Information Minister Atallah Tarar previously said Khan was taken to hospital this month and underwent a 20-minute eye procedure.
“We demand immediate and transparent implementation of the court order, unfettered access to qualified specialists of his choice and an end to methods that put his life at risk while in detention,” Khan’s PTI party said in a statement.
The party faced a crackdown after Khan’s arrest in May 2023 sparked nationwide protests against the military, and it became the largest party in the 2024 elections.
But he said that fraud deprived him of winning more seats to help other parties form a coalition government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, accusations that Sharif and his allies deny. “Reuters”
