Ammon – Israeli authorities said on Thursday that charges had been brought against a citizen and a reservist on suspicion of using confidential information to bet on military operations through the Polly Market website.
The Ministry of Defense, the Internal Security Agency (Shin Bet) and the Israeli police said in a statement after a joint operation that a number of suspects were recently arrested on suspicion of gambling on the site.
The statement stated that it was suspected “that this was based on secret information that the reserve soldiers had access to while performing their military duties.” It has not yet been possible to contact the defendants’ lawyers.
The statement stated that after finding sufficient evidence against a civilian and a reservist, the Public Prosecutor’s Office decided to charge them with serious security crimes as well as charges related to bribery and obstruction of justice.
The statement said, “The security establishment confirms that engaging in gambling activities based on confidential and sensitive information constitutes a real security threat to the operations of the Israeli army and state security.”
Israeli media said that the case is likely linked to an investigation related to an anonymous user’s bet that Israel will bomb Iran on the same Friday in June 2025.
The Israeli army stated that “the results of the investigation indicated that no operational damage occurred in the current incident.” But he said that there was “a serious moral failure and a clear crossing of a red line, which is not consistent with the values of the Israeli army and what is expected of its members.”
He added that criminal and disciplinary measures will be taken against any party proven to have participated in such acts.
No other details were available about the investigation, and the identities of those involved are kept confidential under a publication ban
