Moroccan authorities reported on Sunday that four people were killed as a result of strong torrential rains resulting from unprecedented heavy rains.
A statement issued by the local authorities in Tetouan said that sudden floods surprised a car carrying five people on a road located near one of the main rivers in the region, before it was swept away by water.
“Search operations continue”
She said in the statement, “Sweeping and searching operations, during the night from Saturday (to Sunday), resulted in the recovery of the bodies of two victims,” a 14-year-old girl and a two-year-old child.
She added that on Sunday morning, “two other bodies were found,” a 12-year-old child and a man in his thirties, explaining that “search operations are continuing to find the fifth person.”
Since last week, more than 150,000 people have been evacuated in the northwest of the country due to heavy rains and floods, which led to weather warnings being issued in several areas. The General Directorate of Meteorology expects bad weather conditions to continue until next Tuesday.
