Amman – The White House said, on Friday, that one of its employees “mistakenly” posted a racist video clip offensive to former US President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, in which he depicted them in the form of two monkeys, through President Donald Trump’s account on his social media platform, before the post was later deleted.

A White House official told Agence France-Presse that the video was “published by a White House employee by mistake, and it has been deleted.” Trump’s spokeswoman, Carolyn Levitt, described the outrage sparked by the post as “fake anger.”

US President Donald Trump had shared a video clip on social media depicting former Democratic President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle Obama in the form of two monkeys, using racist images that were often used to dehumanize people of African descent.

Late Thursday, Trump posted a one-minute video amplifying the Republican president’s false claims that his defeat in the 2020 election was the result of fraud. The clip included a shot that appeared to be generated by artificial intelligence, of two dancing monkeys with the heads of Obama and his wife superimposed on them.

The post sparked rapid criticism from prominent political figures, including Republican Senator Tim Scott, a Trump ally and of African descent, according to Reuters.

Scott said on the X platform: “I hope this is fabricated; Because it’s the most racist thing I’ve ever seen come out of this White House. The president should delete it.”

White House spokeswoman Carolyn Levitt said that the post sparked “fake anger,” adding that “this is taken from a satirical video on the Internet that depicts President Trump as the king of the jungle, and portrays Democrats as characters from the movie (The Lion King).” Trump’s clip included a song from this musical film.
