Authorities in the Andalusia region in southern Spain evacuated residential areas for fear of flooding of the Guadalquivir River and warned on Friday of landslides resulting from the explosion of groundwater aquifers.

More than seven thousand people have been forced to leave their homes in the Andalusia region so far amid the so-called “storm train,” during which several successive storms swept through Portugal and Spain with heavy rains and strong winds over the past weeks.

The government meteorological agency, AEMET, warned that another storm called Marta would hit the peninsula tomorrow, Saturday, bringing heavy rains.

Several residential areas near the Guadalquivir River in Cordoba province were evacuated overnight due to the significant rise in water levels. Authorities also evacuated about 1,500 residents of Grazalema, a mountain village popular with hikers, as water seeped through the walls of houses and flowed along cobblestone streets.
