The Belgian judiciary convicted a jihadist, following his trial in absentia for his supposed death in Syria, of committing the “crime of genocide” against the Yazidi minority, in the first trial of its kind held in Belgium to look into this campaign carried out by the “Islamic State” organization. In February, a Swedish court sentenced a 52-year-old woman to 12 years in prison on charges of genocide for keeping Yazidi women and children as slaves in her home in Syria.
