The Austrian Public Prosecution Office reported on Wednesday that it had brought charges against two Syrian officials who were officers of the Bashar al-Assad regime, a former brigadier general in Syrian intelligence and a former head of the Criminal Investigation Bureau who held the rank of lieutenant colonel. The Public Prosecution said in a statement that the charges against them are committing violations against civilians detained during the civil war, including physical violence and sexual assault.
