Ammon – The Palestine Committee in the Senate affirmed its absolute support for the firm positions expressed by His Majesty King Abdullah II, during his discussions with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, in the British capital, London, in which he renewed Jordan’s categorical rejection of Israeli measures aimed at consolidating settlements and imposing sovereignty over the occupied West Bank.

The committee, headed by Al-Ayn Mazen Darwaza, condemned in the strongest and harshest terms the policies pursued by the extremist Israeli government.

She stressed that registering the occupied Palestinian territories as “state property” in preparation for their annexation represents a unilateral measure with no legitimacy, and a clear attempt to forcefully impose a colonial fait accompli, which is absolutely invalid in accordance with the rules of international law and international legitimacy resolutions. It does not establish sovereignty, but rather establishes an illegitimate situation that rises to the level of a grave violation that requires accountability and entails international legal responsibility.

The committee warned against proceeding with the gradual annexation plan for Area C, as it is a practical step to liquidate the Palestinian issue, undermine the two-state solution, and push the region into a spiral of open conflict for which the extremist Israeli government bears full responsibility and consequences.

The committee appreciated His Majesty the King’s emphasis on the necessity of ensuring the implementation of the agreement to end the war on the Gaza Strip, and ensuring the immediate and adequate flow of humanitarian aid to all areas of the Strip, to stop the humanitarian catastrophe and protect civilians.

The Palestine Committee affirmed that His Majesty the King’s diplomatic movements, and his solid political wisdom, are based on a strategic desire to prevent the region from sliding into a comprehensive war, stressing that a just and lasting peace cannot be achieved except by ending the occupation and enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their inalienable right to self-determination and establish their independent, sovereign state along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The committee called on the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities, take binding measures to stop illegal Israeli policies, and protect the rules of the international legal system from erosion and collapse.
