Hala News – Speaker of the Senate, Faisal Al-Fayez, met today, Monday, in his office at the Senate House, the British expert in parliamentary affairs and governance, Sir Paul Silk, and his accompanying delegation.

The meeting discussed Jordanian parliamentary life and its development, the nature of the relationship between the Senate and the House of Representatives and the roles assigned to each chamber, in addition to the comprehensive reform process undertaken by Jordan as a translation of the visions and aspirations of His Majesty King Abdullah II.

Al-Fayez stressed that the reform process, with its political, economic and administrative dimensions, came as an accumulation of the reforms that preceded it, with the aim of enabling Jordan to face various challenges, noting at the same time that the process of modernization and development in Jordan is a continuous and irreversible process despite the challenges surrounding the Kingdom.

He said that Jordan, as part of its reform approach and enhancing governance and good governance, has made constitutional amendments that strengthen the authority of the judiciary and parliament, and the laws regulating political and partisan work have also been amended, including the laws on parliamentary elections and parties, and the laws regulating public freedoms and human rights, in the context of seeking to reach programmatic parliamentary governments.

He added that the process of reform and modernization in various dimensions also aims to build the state of law and institutions based on pluralism, enhance popular participation, activate the role of women and youth, respect human rights, protect public freedoms, consolidate the principles of accountability and justice, ensure the independence of the judiciary and the rule of law, in addition to confronting economic challenges, attracting investment, providing a decent life for citizens, and providing them with the best services.
