“Parliamentary Agriculture” meets with the representative of the “FAO” organization in Jordan Parliament

Amman – The Parliamentary Agriculture and Water Committee, headed by MP Ahmed Al-Shudaifat, discussed today, Monday, with the representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Jordan, Nabil Assaf, ways to enhance joint cooperation and the organization’s role in supporting the agricultural sector and its sustainability in the Kingdom.

During the meeting, Al-Shudaifat stressed the importance of the programs and projects implemented by the organization in Jordan, which aim to develop the agricultural sector, improve food security, support small farmers, in addition to promoting sustainable management of natural resources and water, and confronting the challenges associated with climate change.

He stressed the importance of partnership with international organizations, led by FAO, in supporting national efforts to advance the agricultural sector, stressing the role of the committee in following up on policies and legislation that contribute to achieving sustainable agricultural development, and its keenness to continue cooperation with the concerned authorities in line with the national priorities and agricultural strategy of the Kingdom.

In turn, the representatives, Muhammad Al-Mar’iyah, Basem Al-Rawabdeh, Hussein Al-Amoush, Fathi Al-Bawat, and Muhammad Al-Marayat, stressed the importance of the role played by the FAO in supporting the agricultural sector in Jordan, pointing to its contributions to enhancing food security, empowering farmers, and developing sustainable agricultural practices.

They pointed out that FAO constitutes a real lever for the agricultural sector by supporting productive projects, building capabilities, and providing technical expertise, in line with the royal directives and the state’s vision of achieving comprehensive agricultural development.

For his part, Assaf praised the royal directives calling for enhancing food security, stressing that they constitute a clear road map for advancing the agricultural sector and achieving food sustainability in the Kingdom, and reflect a long-term strategic vision in dealing with regional and global challenges, especially climate change and scarcity of water resources.

He stressed that FAO attaches great importance to supporting Jordanian national efforts in this field, through implementing programs and projects aimed at enhancing agricultural production, supporting small farmers, and improving food value chains, which contributes to building a more flexible food system capable of facing future challenges and achieving food security for Jordan.
