A second parliamentary memorandum calls for a law prohibiting “social communication” for children

08-02-2026 07:07 PM

Ammon – Representative Dr. Hayel Ayyash sent an official letter to the Prime Minister, in which he called for the issuance of a law prohibiting the use of social media platforms for young age groups under the age of 15 or 16 years, in order to preserve children’s mental health and protect them from the dangers of the digital world.

The representative pointed out in his book that children today are exposed to a huge amount of misinformation, hate speech, and malicious propaganda via the Internet, considering that their childhood is not a commodity for sale or risks, and that it is the state’s duty to protect the emerging generations.

He stressed that the Internet can be a space for knowledge if it is subject to appropriate pedagogical and educational standards for children and young people, adding that dozens of scientific studies have monitored in recent years the devastating effects of the use of social media on the mental health of adolescents and their educational decline.

The representative concluded his book by calling on the government to study issuing this law in a manner consistent with the public interest and protection of society.

The First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Representative Dr. Khamis Attia, submitted a proposal to Prime Minister Dr. Jaafar Hassan about regulating the use of social networking sites for those under 16.
