Hala News – The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Political and Parliamentary Affairs, Dr. Ali Al-Khawaldeh, called on women to enhance their political participation and benefit from legislation that strengthened their position in the Parties and Election Laws, and the Local Administration Law.

According to a statement by the ministry, Al-Khawaldeh said, during his meeting today, Saturday, with a number of women from civil society in the Chechen Charitable Association, that His Majesty King Abdullah II stressed that the state and its institutions will continue with the political modernization program, the results of which were the entry of parties into parliament, and the increase in the representation of women and youth through parties and the House of Representatives.

He stressed that the current political environment is attractive and motivating for young people and women to engage more in political life and prove their presence in the political scene, because legislation and laws have become friendly to this important social component, indicating that political modernization was accompanied by economic and administrative modernization programmes.

For her part, the association’s president, Luna Pino, said that the association is interested in enhancing women’s role and activity in political life, in addition to political awareness and education, especially with the legislation that has contributed to strengthening their presence in parliament and parties.

In turn, political empowerment expert Zakaria Bani Amer said that Jordanian women’s continued attendance at activities related to education and political awareness is evidence of their interest and belief in change, and in exploiting the opportunity of legislation and laws that encourage women’s participation.

At the conclusion of the session, an extensive dialogue took place between the Khawalda and the women about various issues related to women’s rights and political empowerment.
