Two parliamentary committees discuss implementing the hygiene strategy and reducing random waste dumping

Hala News – The administrative committees, headed by Representative Khalifa Al-Dayat, and the parliamentary environment and climate committees, headed by Engineer Jihad Abawi, held a joint meeting today, Tuesday, to discuss programs and plans for implementing the national strategy for cleanliness and reducing random dumping of waste, which is implemented by the Ministries of Environment and Local Administration, and the Greater Amman Municipality.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of Local Administration, Walid Al-Masry, the Minister of Environment, Ayman Suleiman, the Vice Chairman of the Greater Amman Municipality Committee, Ziyad Al-Rihani, and the President of the Federation of Specific Environmental Associations in Jordan, Omar Al-Shushan.
Al-Diyat stressed the importance of adopting clear executive programs and measurable performance indicators, in addition to field follow-up to ensure the achievement of the desired goals, stressing the oversight role of the House of Representatives in following up on the implementation of the strategy.
For his part, Abawi stressed the necessity of accelerating the implementation of the programs approved within the strategy, and enhancing coordination between the concerned authorities, in a way that contributes to improving the environmental reality and reducing the phenomenon of random dumping of waste in various regions of the Kingdom.
Members of the two committees, Representatives Fathi Al-Bawat, Nassim Al-Abadi, Tayseer Abu Orabi, Ibrahim Al-Hamidi, Adnan Mashouqa, Hussein Al-Tarawneh, Abdel Basset Al-Kabariti, Hussein Krishan, Ahmed Al-Asha, Ahmed Al-Alimat, Ahmed Al-Hamisat, and Muhammad Al-Maraya, reviewed the executive plans and follow-up mechanisms, stressing the importance of strengthening partnership with municipalities and the local community to support efforts to maintain public cleanliness and achieve environmental sustainability.
For his part, Al-Masry reviewed the ongoing executive procedures and plans, including preparing documents to implement field experiments on a number of main and effective roads within cities, with the aim of improving the performance of the local administration system and raising the efficiency of services provided to citizens.
For his part, Suleiman stressed that the Ministry is working to support the national hygiene strategy by developing policies and legislation, strengthening awareness and control programs, and coordinating with the relevant authorities, noting the launch of an executive program to reduce random waste dumping for the years 2026-2027, which includes developing infrastructure, monitoring violations, and using modern technology, in addition to ongoing community awareness campaigns.
Al-Rihani explained the efforts of the Greater Amman Municipality in the field of public hygiene and waste management, stressing the expansion of field projects and initiatives to sort waste from the source, and enhancing environmental awareness among citizens in cooperation with official authorities and the local community.
In turn, Al-Shoushan stressed the importance of uniting community and governmental efforts to improve the level of public cleanliness, pointing to the role of the Federation of Environmental Associations in environmental awareness campaigns and supporting field initiatives to reduce random dumping of waste, and stressing that the partnership between associations, the secretariat, and the private sector constitutes a basic foundation for achieving a clean and sustainable environment.
