Buckingham Palace approved the photo before the Cabinet Office sent the first telegrams last week, and Erin Lloyd, of Cheshire, celebrated her 100th birthday on September 25 and yesterday became one of the first recipients of the telegrams.

Ms Lloyd, who worked on a dairy farm during World War II, said: ‘I was thrilled to receive a card from the new King and Queen, with the late Queen’s passing I thought the 100-year-olds at the time might have missed them, so It was a wonderful surprise that they remembered me.”

Her son and caregiver Ian Lloyd handed her the card on her arrival, and Mr. Lloyd, also a royal historian, said: “It was wonderful to have a friendly photo of the royal couple together.”
