Ammon – The wife of veteran American actor Robert Duvall said in a Facebook post on Monday that the Oscar-winning star had died at the age of 95.
The publication stated that the actor, who played the role of Tom Hagen, the Corleone family lawyer, in the movie “The Godfather” and its second part, and co-starred in the short television series “Lonesome Dove,” “Lonesome Dove,” died peacefully yesterday, Sunday. No cause of death was given.
Luciana Duval said in the post, “In every one of his many roles, he gave his characters everything he had, and was loyal to the truth of the soul.”
The humanity she represented.”
Duvall left a diverse legacy through a group of famous roles, such as the colonel obsessed with napalm in the movie (Apocalypse Now) and as the character of Boo Radley in (To Kill a Mockingbird).
The son of a Navy admiral and an amateur actress, Duvall grew up in Annapolis, Maryland. After graduating from Principia College in Illinois and engaging in military service in the US Army, he moved to New York, where he lived with Dustin Hoffman and a friendship developed between him and Gene Hackman when they were students struggling in the field of acting.
After participating in many television works, Duvall left a strong impression even in small roles, such as his first film role as the mysterious and isolated character Boo Radley in the movie (To Kill a Mockingbird).
Duvall got the role at the suggestion of the film’s screenwriter, Horton Foote, who had admired Duvall’s performance in one of his plays.
Foote later wrote the 1983 film Tender Mercy, for which Duvall won an Academy Award for Best Actor.
Like a failed country singer.
Perhaps Duvall’s most prominent role was in Francis Ford Coppola’s epic film (Apocalypse Now) “Apocalypse Now” in 1979, which deals with the Vietnam War, in which he played the character of the eccentric Lieutenant Colonel Bill Kilgore, who is obsessed with surfing.
Duvall only appeared on screen for a few minutes, but he managed to attract attention when his character was shown walking proudly across the battlefield after a successful attack, declaring enthusiastically, “I love the smell of napalm in the morning…it smells like the smell of victory.”
For this role, Duvall received one of his seven Academy Award nominations. He also received another nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Coppola’s film “The Godfather.” Duvall participated in the second part of “The Godfather”, but he rejected the third part because he considered the offered fee insufficient.
The actor was nominated for Oscars for the films “The Great Santini,” “The Apostille,” “The Dialogue,” “A Civil Action,” and “The Judge,” in 2014.
Duvall appeared in about 100 films.
