The Syndicate of Olive Presses Owners said that the initial indications, after the opening of the olive pressing season in the middle of this month, indicate a significant decrease in the percentage of oil in olive fruits of all kinds.
The Syndicate, in a statement, according to its media spokesperson, Mahmoud Al-Omari, attributed this decline to the incomplete ripening of the fruits; Due to the relatively cold weather that prevailed during the past weeks and led to the late ripening of the fruits as usual at such times.
The statement pointed out that the date of harvest depends on the geographical location and the nature of the weather, which is the criteria for the percentage of oil in the fruits as well as the size of the crop.
The statement called on the farmers to go to the nearest agricultural directorate or office to take advice before starting the picking process, pointing out that the partial discoloration of the fruits is one of the indicators of full maturity, stressing that squeezing the fruits before their maturity is wasteful and lost in quantity, and thus constitutes a loss for the farmers and the quantities of oil produced at the level of The kingdom.
