Jordanians consume about 3 billion gigabytes of internet in 9 months

Figures issued by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority revealed that Jordanians consumed about 2.99 billion gigabytes of data during the first 9 months of last year (about 3 billion gigabytes of data), which is the last period for which the authority had figures regarding Internet traffic and consumption in the Kingdom.
According to the Communications Authority’s figures, the average daily consumption of Jordanians from the Internet or data during the first 9 months of last year (more than 11 million gigabytes per day).
She emphasized that the level of data consumption in Jordan in the same period witnessed an increase of 39 percent when compared to the amount of data consumption of Jordanians in the same period of 2020.
During the Corona crisis and the subsequent procedures for home quarantine, curfews, and social distancing, the global Internet was the main tool for Jordanians to communicate with their acquaintances, family and friends.
Social networks and their applications topped the scene and captured the largest proportion of Internet traffic, especially video content. Where these were networks of platforms that united Jordanians in the crisis, communicating through their space each other’s news, photos and videos, as it was the main tool for transmitting news in Jordan and the world, the developments of “Corona” and the measures imposed by the government in the face of the outbreak of the disease.
There are no local numbers or data describing the reality of the use of social networks in Jordan, but data contained in a global report issued by “Hootsuite” company on the state of the Internet around the world drew a map of the use of these global networks by Jordanians, which witnessed expansion and expansion, especially during the Corona period. With people staying for long periods in their homes due to the precautionary measures taken in the face of the spread of Corona, which came as follows:
“Facebook”
The global social network “Facebook” continued to dominate the use of social media in Jordan to acquire the highest number of users compared to other social networks. The global report shows that the number of users of this network in the Kingdom reached, at the beginning of this year, nearly 5.3 million active users.
The report said, “The user base of the social network “Facebook” in Jordan, with reaching this level, will have witnessed the first decline by 200 thousand users, by 3.6%, compared to the user base registered at the beginning of last year, which amounted to 5.5 million users at the time.”
This decline is explained by the trend of users to cancel their accounts and the trend of a large segment of other users today, especially teenagers and young adults, to modern “video” platforms such as “Instagram” and “Tik Tok”.
The report indicated that the users of the social network “Facebook” in Jordan constituted 52% of the total population of the Kingdom, estimated at 10.3 million.
“Facebook Messenger”
The same global report stated that Jordanians also rely heavily on messaging applications, especially “Facebook Messenger”, which is also affiliated with the global “Facebook” company, as the number of Jordanian accounts on this application reached nearly 3.4 million.
With the arrival of the number of Facebook Messenger users to this level, it has decreased by one hundred thousand users, by about 3 percent, compared to the number recorded at the beginning of last year, which amounted to about 3.5 million users.
The report indicated that the number of Jordanian users on the Facebook Messenger application, at the beginning of this year, constituted 33% of the total population in Jordan, estimated at 10.3 million.
“Twitter”
The global report showed an increase in the number of Jordanian users of the micro-blogging network “Twitter” to record, at the beginning of this year, about 736,000 users.
The report stated that the number of Jordanian users on the Twitter network, and when they reached this level at the beginning of this year, increased by 248,000 users, or 51%, when compared to the number of registered users at the beginning of last year, which amounted to 488,000 users at the time.
The report indicated that the number of Jordanian users on Twitter accounted at the beginning of this year, reaching 7% of the total population in Jordan, estimated at 10.3 million.
“toLinkedIn”
The data contained in the same global report shows a large presence of Jordanians on the specialized social-professional network LinkedIn; These data showed that the number of Jordanian users on this global network reached 1.2 million users at the beginning of this year.
The number of LinkedIn users in Jordan increased by one hundred thousand users, at a rate of up to 9 percent, compared to the number of its users registered at the beginning of last year, which amounted to about 1.1 million accounts.
According to the report, the number of LinkedIn users, at the beginning of this year, constituted 12% of the total population of the Kingdom, estimated at 10.3 million.
“Instagram”
The report showed that the number of Instagram users – which specializes in capturing, exchanging and sharing photos and videos – in Jordan has exceeded the three million active users barrier at the beginning of this year.
The report said that the user base of the social network “Instagram” in Jordan, when it reached this level, would have witnessed an increase of 300,000 users, an increase of 11 percent compared to the user base registered at the beginning of last year, which amounted to 2.7 million users.
According to the report, the number of users of the Instagram network – owned by Meta, which also owns the Facebook network and the WhatsApp application – constitutes 29% of the total population of the Kingdom, estimated at 10.3 million.

The report indicated that the number of active users of the “Snapchat” application in Jordan reached 3.10 million users at the end of last year.
The report indicated that the base of users of the messaging and photo and video sharing application “Snapchat” in Jordan, by reaching this level, has witnessed an increase of 350 thousand users, or 13%, compared to the user base registered at the beginning of last year, which amounted to about 2.75 million accounts.
