Haj Tawfik requests a public debate with the head of “Consumer Protection”

The head of the Syndicate of Food Traders, Khalil Haj Tawfiq, officially requested a public debate with the President of the National Association for Consumer Protection, about the talk about price hikes in local markets.

Haj Tawfiq added, in his speech on the “Pulse of the Country” program on “Roya” channel, this evening, Monday, in response to a statement issued by the association about the rise in prices in the local markets due to the events taking place in Ukraine and its impact on the local market, that he is ready to respond. On all these statements directly and officially through a television debate.

And he refused to talk about the existence of exploitation by traders, pointing out that there are laws that protect everyone, considering that the commercial sector has endured so much during the Corona pandemic that governments may be unable to bear it.

Haj Tawfiq pointed out that such conversations about price hikes abound ahead of the blessed month of Ramadan, stressing that the Russian-Ukrainian war did not lead to an increase in prices in the local markets.

He confirmed the readiness of the commercial sector for the month of Ramadan from now, explaining that Jordan does not import any basic commodities from Ukraine.

Haj Tawfiq added that the Jordanian food basket is safe.
