At the International Affairs Society symposium, which was moderated by Issam Malkawi, Marwan Muasher presented an analysis of the Arab situation in light of the weak interest of the United States in our region, justifying this by the diminishing value of Arab oil and gas, and Israel’s complete control over the Middle East region, especially the Arab region. Israel no longer needs Western support, as its power and dominance do not need evidence.
(1)
The absence of the Arab project!
This is a boring and repetitive idea, and it has become familiar to children! Al-Muasher said: We are in a situation where we are not able to contribute to the current civilization, nor even to absorb its achievements and technical tools.
Geography – despite its importance – cannot be relied upon, as geopolitical factors may play against us if we are not able to exploit them. In any case, the importance of geography has greatly diminished in light of the disappearance of the value of the place resulting from the development of technology, drone warfare, missiles, and others.
Investing in geography requires the transition of the national state to a form resembling the European Union.
There will be no project in light of the isolation of the national state, which is immersed in the search for its own narratives. To justify the inability to work jointly with Arab countries.
(2)
Leadership or governance?
Al-Muasher explained that the era of the inspiring leader, and the performance of the inspiring Arab leaders, contributed to the further loss of the nation! We don’t need leaders! Arabs need governance that includes freedom, participation, justice, equality, democracy, integrity, and the prosecution of corruption!! We need accountability, responsibility, and critical thinking!
(3)
Absence of leaders
Al-Muasher said clearly – and I wish everyone understood what he said – the leaders that the state creates through administrative, clientelist, and conciliatory decisions are a burden on the nation! The real leaders are those created by the market in its various institutions, including unions and unengineered parties!
In my opinion, Jordan’s political, economic, educational, and health problem is the lack or absence of institutionalization! We will not advance economically in light of weak economic growth and severe unemployment, which we have done nothing to confront!
Al-Muasher did not indicate that any job for a young man or woman requires high-level mediation within clientelist relations between a representative, a sheikh, a minister, or an influential person!!
It is said: The position of a guard or a maintenance worker in any government institution requires an important intermediary!
(4)
Citizen building
A strong citizen, not geography, is what protects the nation!
It is the custom of the coven to link this to education and its curricula, and perhaps the coven is tired of repeating this! The Muasher did not know that the new education law after the merger of the two ministries preserved the intellectual principles that prevailed in the sixties, without considering the importance of the water that passed under the bridge over sixty years!
D. Marwan!
How do we build the citizen if we live in the thought of the sixties?
Do you understand me?!!
