Hala News – German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, accompanied by the First Lady, visited today, Wednesday, the registration center of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the capital, Amman, as part of his official visit to the Kingdom that he began yesterday, Tuesday.

Steinmeier met with the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Jordan, Maria Stavropoulou, and was briefed on the work mechanisms of the registration center, and the efforts made by the Commission to provide protection and basic services to refugees, in cooperation with partners, and in a manner that takes into account the needs of the most vulnerable groups.

The German President expressed his appreciation for the role played by Jordan in hosting refugees, stressing his country’s continued support for relevant humanitarian programs.

The German President’s visit comes within the framework of Germany’s keenness to consolidate its strategic partnership with Jordan, and to support the Kingdom in the fields of education, vocational training, and scientific research, in addition to supporting its efforts in dealing with the repercussions of regional crises.
