Ammon – The Independent Election Commission announced that it has sent official communications to a number of political parties that have not completed the procedures for amending their bylaws, in order to benefit from the additional grace period of one week starting from the date they are notified in the official books.
The Independent Electoral Council stated that this step comes as a continuation of previous measures, as the Parties Registry has circulated since last June to all parties registered with it the necessity of aligning their basic systems with the standards of good governance and adhering to the regulatory and legal frameworks for the work of political parties.
The party register at the Independent Electoral Commission stated that the political parties that were addressed were: the Labor Party, the Ennahdha and Workers Party, the National Constitutional Party, the Islamic Action Front Party, the Workers’ Party, and the Construction and Labor Party.
The Authority stressed its keenness to enable parties to complete compliance requirements within the specified periods, stressing at the same time that it will apply the periods and provisions stipulated in Article (33) of the Political Parties Law against any party that does not commit to providing the party registry with the required documents and amendments after the expiry of the additional period granted.
The Independent Electoral Council added that adherence to the provisions of the law and principles of governance constitute a fundamental pillar in the development of work.
