Hala News – Tkiyet Umm Ali announced the implementation of a multi-sectoral humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip worth 950 thousand dinars, which includes the establishment and rehabilitation of five shelter units for those affected who lost their homes during the war.
The hospice explained that each unit includes about 200 tents, with a total of 1,000 tents, with local funding from Jordanian donations allocated to Gaza in cooperation with partner associations within the Strip and in coordination with the Jordanian Hashemite Charitable Organization.
The units also include creating and rehabilitating 40 health units and building and equipping 9 fully-equipped educational classrooms.
According to the hospice’s statement on Monday, this intervention comes in response to the urgent needs on the ground, in light of a real crisis related to providing shelter spaces for the displaced.
A safe space designated for widowed women and families of orphans was also created, in addition to replacing tents in some cases and rehabilitating the available ones in others as an immediate solution to alleviate the suffering of the affected families.
The Director General of Tkiyet Um Ali, Samer Balqar, said that the first phase was completed by erecting 250 residential tents in the areas of western Gaza, the port and eastern Gaza, in addition to a production kitchen and building a unit that includes 3 classrooms, pointing out that the project with its five units would be completed before the middle of the holy month of Ramadan.
He stated that the shelter units will include equipped production kitchens that will prepare 5,000 breakfast meals daily inside Gaza during Ramadan.
He added that the kitchens will provide employment opportunities for the people of Gaza to support the livelihoods of families who have lost their sources of income, while the classrooms will allow children to complete their education while providing psychological and social support services to mitigate the long-term impact of the crisis on their right to education and protection.
He explained that the next phase will witness the implementation of a school feeding program similar to what is being implemented in Jordan, by providing 100,000 date bars to students.
Within Jordan, Balqar indicated that the hospice will provide 5,000 meals daily at the hospice’s headquarters in the Al Mahatta area in Amman and will continue to distribute 20,000 food parcels per month in the governorates of the Kingdom, in addition to distributing about 200,000 breakfast meals inside Jordan.
Balqar stressed that the design of interventions is based on continuous field assessments of needs, which reflects the hospice’s commitment to a humanitarian approach that places human dignity and rights at the heart of relief work.
