Jordan participates in the work of the 63rd session of the United Nations Committee on the Uses of Outer Space

Hala News – A delegation from Jordan, represented by the Director-General of the Royal Jordanian Geographic Centre, and the Director-General of the Regional Center for Space Science and Technology Education for West Asia, Brigadier General Engineer Muammar Kamel Haddadin, participated in the work of the sixty-third session of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee (STSC) of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), which extended from February 2 to February 13 at the United Nations Headquarters in Vienna.

The conference aims to unify international efforts to benefit from space technology peacefully and to serve the goals and interests of countries.

Engineer Haddadin stressed that this participation comes within Jordan’s approach to help achieve sustainable development goals and support the sustainability of outer space activities for peaceful uses in a way that serves current and future generations.

On the sidelines of participating in the conference, Haddadin met with the Deputy Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, Idris Al-Hadani, in the presence of Ambassador Muhammad Al-Hindawi, Head of the Permanent Mission and the Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to Austria.

During the meeting, ways of developing and supporting the work of the Regional Center for Teaching Space Science and Technology were discussed through capacity building, enhancing regional and international cooperation, and developing academic programs, in addition to the possibility of supporting the office in organizing the GNSS conference in the capital, Amman, during the year 2027.

During the meeting, Haddadin explained the pivotal role of the regional center in strengthening national and regional capabilities in the fields of space science and technology and its peaceful applications, and that it will form an essential pillar in enabling West Asian countries to make optimal use of space technologies, in addition to its role in enhancing the Kingdom’s regional position as a distinguished regional center in the international system concerned with the peaceful uses of outer space.

On the sidelines of the visit, the Jordanian delegation was received at Jordan House in the presence of members of the Jordanian diplomatic mission.
