Hala News – Today, Saturday, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Republic of Turkey issued a joint statement at the conclusion of the discussions of His Majesty King Abdullah II and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which were held in Istanbul, the text of which follows:
“His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, visited the Republic of Turkey on February 7, 2026, and was received by His Excellency President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul. This visit provided an opportunity for the two leaders to exchange views on bilateral relations and regional issues.
The meeting, which was held out of a desire to enhance cooperation, reflected the depth of historical ties, distinguished relations and common understanding between the two countries, as well as the common goal of strengthening their partnership in various fields. The two leaders affirmed their commitment to continuing to strengthen bilateral relations at various levels, as the year 2027 will culminate in the eightieth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Jordan and Turkey.
The two sides stressed the importance of enhancing economic, trade and investment cooperation, and called on the private sector in both countries to continue exploring new ways of cooperation, expanding partnerships, and increasing the exchange of experiences and visits.
The two leaders welcomed the results of the first meeting of the Joint Economic Committee, which was held in Amman on October 27-28, 2025, and stressed the importance of effective implementation of the committee’s decisions.
The two leaders reviewed existing cooperation frameworks and expressed their determination to ensure effective use of existing agreements, including arrangements related to trade and investment, and to enhance economic and industrial cooperation.
The two leaders reaffirmed the importance of continuing coordination and cooperation in the fields of defense industries and security, noting the two countries’ common interest in maintaining regional security and stability.
The meeting discussed regional developments, with a special focus on the situation in Palestine. The two leaders expressed their deep concern about the humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza, and stressed the urgent need for unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid and the start of early recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza.
The two leaders stressed the need to achieve a just and lasting peace based on the two-state solution, which leads to the establishment of an independent, sovereign Palestinian state, geographically contiguous along the lines of June 4, 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital. They also focused on the urgent need to restore calm in the West Bank, where Israeli annexation policies, the displacement of thousands of Palestinians, and settler violence undermine any hope of achieving shared peace and prosperity.
The two leaders expressed their support for the peace efforts made by US President Donald Trump and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803 (2025), stressing that these efforts must end the war and provide a concrete political path leading to the implementation of the two-state solution in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions.
The two leaders stressed their categorical rejection of occupation, military aggression and annexation, stressing the necessity of preserving the territorial integrity, sovereignty and national unity of all countries for the sake of peace and stability in the region. Accordingly, the two leaders expressed their support for the establishment of collective mechanisms consistent with international law to ensure security and prosperity in the region.
The two leaders also expressed their categorical rejection of any attempts to change the legal and historical status in Jerusalem and its sanctities, and reaffirmed their rejection of all violations of the sanctity of the Holy Mosque.
The Republic of Türkiye affirmed its full respect for the Hashemite custodianship over the Islamic and Christian holy places in Jerusalem, and the special role played by Jordan in caring for them.
The two leaders pointed to the importance of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), stressing that it is indispensable in providing basic services to the Palestinian people, and expressing their deep concern about the systematic Israeli measures against UNRWA, and stressing that these measures exacerbate the deteriorating humanitarian situation. The two leaders called on all partners to continue supporting UNRWA.
The two leaders also reaffirmed their firm commitment to the importance of Syria’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity, and their aspiration to reach a successful outcome to a comprehensive political process. In this context, the two leaders called for the full implementation of the agreements announced on January 18 and 30, 2026, and stressed the importance of combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations to ensure stability in the country. The two leaders expressed their determination to continue working on cooperation in the field of transport between Türkiye, Jordan and Syria. The two leaders also stressed the importance of maintaining the calm in southern Syria, calling for an end to Israeli violations and full commitment to the 1974 Disengagement Agreement, and stressing the importance of implementing the Suwayda road map announced in September 2025.
At the conclusion of the visit, His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein expressed his appreciation to His Excellency President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and to the government and people of the Republic of Türkiye for their warm hospitality to him and the accompanying delegation.
His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein also extended an invitation to His Excellency President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to visit Jordan.
