On the seventh of February, the day does not go by normally for Jordanians. Something internal is stirred, a shared memory, and an old feeling that is renewed. It is the day that recalls the biography of the late builder, Hussein bin Talal, may God have mercy on him, with all the human presence and closeness he brought to the people. At the same time, it recalls a continuous march led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, son of Hussein, may God honor him. It is a march that has never separated from the Jordanian person.

This National Day is recalled as a moment rooted in national memory, and a moment in which national consciousness was intensely formed, and in which the meaning of loyalty and allegiance was enshrined as part of the Jordanian experience itself. On February 7, grief intertwined with a sense of responsibility, and loss turned into a national act that preserved the cohesion of the state and the continuity of its narrative.

The Jordanian national identity was formed through a long course of interaction between the state and society, in a context characterized by challenges and transformations. This identity was not built on the idea of abstract authority, but rather on a clear value system that placed the human being at the center of belonging, his dignity the basis of stability, and his participation a condition for the protection and continuation of the state. Hence, the Jordanian person was not a marginal party in the state project, but rather was its core and main actor.

At the core of this identity, the idea that the human being is the most precious thing we possess has been firmly established, not as a slogan, but rather as a national perception of public life. A perception that sees the citizen as a bearer of identity, responsible for its preservation, and a partner in its reproduction through daily practice and actual belonging. Therefore, the Jordanian national narrative was linked to the idea of a state that is close to its people, embraces them, and is based on their trust, not separated from them or condescending to them.

The relationship between the Hashemite leadership and the Jordanian people formed one of the basic pillars of this narrative. It was a relationship based on mutual proximity, presence in the field, and direct listening to people’s concerns and aspirations. This type of relationship contributed to consolidating trust and building a deep sense of national partnership, as the state was not viewed as a separate entity from society, but rather as an extension of it and an expression of its values and history.

As for development in the Jordanian experience, it was closely linked to national identity and collective memory, as development was not understood as a technical path separate from society, but rather as a national process aimed at strengthening social stability, protecting the national fabric, improving living conditions, and expanding opportunities, while maintaining justice and balance. Development in Jordan stems from the human being, protects his dignity, takes into account the privacy of society, and is undiminished, as it works to consolidate belonging and enhance trust.

The Day of Loyalty and Pledge of Allegiance comes to embody this profound convergence between national memory and political identity. It is a day in which the relationship is renewed between the past and the present, between legacy and path, and between leadership and society, in loyalty to a process that established the state on the basis of humanity, and allegiance to a national approach that has maintained its cohesion because it has not separated from its people, has not abandoned its values, and has not compromised the dignity of its citizens.

At a time when national identities are being shaken, Jordan continues to reproduce its identity quietly and steadily, based on a strong and cohesive national memory, a clear national narrative, and a solid relationship between the leadership and the people. Thus, February 7th remains more than a memory. A station to confirm the meaning, renew the covenant, and consolidate the idea of a homeland that is protected by its people, and whose identity is preserved in deeds before words.

May God protect Jordan and its Hashemite leadership, which views humans as the basis of development.
