On February 7 of every year, Jordanians, along with Arabs and free people everywhere, remember the memory of loyalty and allegiance, this fragrant memory in which we live in the twenty-seventh year this year, and through which we recall the exploits of the late, great King Hussein bin Talal, the most precious of men, the most honorable lineage, and one of the giants of the twentieth century.

On this day, twenty-seven years ago, his pure soul flowed back to its creator, on a day that still rings in the nation’s memory and has not disappeared from the world of oblivion. A day in which sadness fell over Jordan and the Jordanians in their cities, villages, valleys, and camps, for the passing of an exceptional leader after a career full of giving and achievement, which he harnessed in the service of the homeland and the Arab and Islamic nation, over the course of nearly half a century of his assuming responsibility, during which Jordan witnessed development and modernization that included various aspects of life.

Since the late great man assumed his constitutional powers on May 2, 1953, Jordan has gone through several regional, local, and Arab crises. However, His Majesty the late King Hussein bin Talal, may God have mercy on him, was able, with his wisdom and insight, to overcome the difficulties and move Jordan on a solid foundation that is not shaken by storms, striving to build the modern Jordanian state despite the harsh circumstances and the complexity of the surrounding challenges. He succeeded in bringing Jordan to a safe shore, and consolidating the foundations of the state in various political, economic, social and military fields, most notably the development of the armed forces, with steady and confident steps.

On this occasion, we recall the immortal words of Al-Hussein, may God have mercy on him, on January 24, 1999, when he issued his supreme royal will to appoint His Highness Prince Abdullah as Crown Prince, addressing him by saying:

Saying: (I have entrusted you to assume the position of Crown Prince of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, and I am clear in conscience and soul, and I am full of confidence and reassurance that you are qualified to bear this great responsibility. I have known in you, as you are my son, who grew up in my hands to love the homeland and belong to it, dedication to sincere hard work, self-denial, determination, willpower, objectivity and balance, and being guided by the generous, tolerant Hashemite morals based on fear of God first, love of people, humility towards them, and keenness to Their service)…

These are words that summarize an approach and confirm Hussein’s firm belief that Jordan’s interest is above all else.

Since His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein officially assumed his constitutional powers, he has followed the same path that his late father planned for him, to lead Jordan in a sea of ​​choppy waves, and in a region full of conflicts and instability. Despite the exceptional circumstances, His Majesty was able, with wisdom and ability, to advance Jordan towards progress and development in various areas of life, keeping pace with the development of many countries of the world, so that Jordan remains strong, invincible, fearless, and putting the interest of the country and the citizen above all else.

At the same time, Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, was supportive of regional stability, respected the sovereignty of states, and contributed to addressing many outstanding international issues, most notably the Palestinian issue, as it is the core of the conflict in the region and the world, by emphasizing its solution in accordance with international resolutions and laws, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on its national soil with East Jerusalem as its capital.

Thus, history records, in letters of light, the great role that His Majesty King Abdullah II played and continues to play, as he is truly the best successor to the best predecessor.

On this historic and pivotal day, the Jordanians stood before the eyes of the world to set the most wonderful examples of loyalty to the late, great Hussein bin Talal, and renew their pledge of allegiance to His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein, after the Hashemite banner was transferred smoothly and constitutionally, in accordance with the provisions of the Jordanian Constitution, so that His Majesty would continue the path of construction and giving, on a path whose title is hope, whose legitimacy is justice, and whose banner is achievement and work.

As we commemorate this fragrant memory, the memory of loyalty and allegiance, we bow in reverence and appreciation for the giving of Al-Hussein, may God have mercy on him, and we draw inspiration from its meanings of faith and determination to continue the path of goodness, construction and giving, with firm confidence and high determination, led by the bearer of the Hashemite standard, our leader and master, His Majesty King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein (Abu Al-Hussein), may God protect him and cherish his kingdom.
