Today, Thursday, it was announced in the capital, Amman, the death of the leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement “Hamas”, Ibrahim Ghosheh, at the age of 85.

And Ibrahim Ghosheh, one of the flags of the Islamic movement in Palestine, Hamas, and its official spokesman in the period 1991-1999.

He was born in Jerusalem in 1936 during the Great Revolution in Palestine, and lived through his childhood the ordeal of Palestine and the 1948 war. He joined the Rashidiya School in Jerusalem, and finished her secondary education.

Jerusalem remained in his mind no matter how many years passed and crises increased, so we find him talking about his memories describing Jerusalem, its neighborhoods, markets and Al-Aqsa Mosque in the period preceding the 1948 war.

In view of the conditions experienced by the sons of his generation, interest in the country’s problems prevailed among boys and young people, and an attempt to identify the best way to liberate Palestine.

After the 1948 Palestine War, his family was forced to move to Jericho for a period of time and then returned again to Jerusalem.

He joined the Islamic movement in Jerusalem in 1950 at the beginning of his youth, and Ibrahim Ghosheh talks about the increasing political interest among young people and the attempt to identify the best way to liberate Palestine.

He worked as a field engineer in the Eastern Ghor Canal project in Jordan in 1961, an engineer in the licensing department in the Kuwait Municipality between (1962-1965), an engineer in the Khaled Ibn Al-Walid Dam project in Jordan between (1966-1967), and an engineer in the Ministry of Electricity and Water Kuwaiti in 1970, and executive director of the King Talal Dam project of the Jordan Valley Authority between (1972-1978), and he opened a private office for design and engineering supervision in Amman in 1978.

He joined the ranks of the Muslim Brotherhood in the early fifties of the last century, became active in its ranks, and engaged in Brotherhood student work during his studies in Egypt, and participated in the activities of the Palestinian Students Association in Cairo in 1955, and represented the Brotherhood in its media committee, and met Abu Ammar during that period, and received A military course by Egyptian officers during the tripartite aggression against Egypt in 1956. He also attended the meeting that resulted in the formation of the Palestinian Muslim Brotherhood in 1960.

He participated in the activities of the Brotherhood in Kuwait during the sixties of the last century, and supervised internal seminars and prepared organizational bulletins. The Brotherhood nominated him to enter the elections to select members of the Palestinian National Council in 1964 on behalf of the Palestinians in Kuwait, and he headed to contribute to the Palestinian resistance effort, where he presented (with some engineers) Ali Abi Ammar participated in building trenches and shelters for the resistance in Jordan in 1968. He was among a group of Brotherhood cadres who called for the establishment of a resistance project for the Brotherhood in Jordan between 1967-1970.

He took over the presidency of the Muslim Brotherhood movement in the Jordanian Engineers Syndicate in 1973, and worked in the Palestine section of the Brotherhood, and participated in the internal conference of the Brotherhood held in Amman to discuss the future of the Palestinian cause in 1983, and he was among those who pushed in the conference towards launching a resistance project in Palestine led by the Brotherhood.

Ghosheh began working with Hamas officially since 1989 in Kuwait, and established the first political committee of Hamas abroad, and became the representative of Hamas abroad in 1990, and its official spokesman in 1991, a member of its political bureau, and the head of the Shura Council in it between 1995 -2004).

Ghosheh suffered in the course of his life’s struggle; He was displaced with his family to Jericho during the Nakba in 1948, and he was harassed by the Jordanian government, and he was deported with Hamas leaders to Qatar when the government closed its offices in 1999, and he returned to Jordan in 2001, and he was placed under house arrest and banned from traveling for several years.

Ibrahim Ghosheh was born in Jerusalem on November 26, 1936 AD.

He completed his secondary education from Rashidiya School in Jerusalem.

He is married and has five children (3 girls, 2 boys).

He joined the Islamic movement in Jerusalem in 1950, and was one of the Islamic activists in the Palestinian Students League in Egypt.

Graduated from the Faculty of Engineering at Cairo University – Civil Engineering in 1961.

He worked as an engineer in the Eastern Ghor Canal in Jordan from 1961-1962.

He went to Kuwait, where he worked in the Kuwait Municipality from 1962-1966.

He returned to Jordan to work on the Khaled Dam project on Yarmouk, 1966-1971.

– Ghosheh returned to Jordan and worked in the construction of the Khaled bin Al-Walid Dam and then the construction of the King Talal Dam in Jordan since late 1972.

He returned again to Kuwait, where he worked in Kuwait Towers for one year only, 1971-1972. Ghosheh participated in the construction of the Kuwait Towers in early 1971.

He worked as a director of the King Talal Dam project in Jordan from 1972-1978.

He worked in his private engineering office from 1978-1989.

Dedicated to working in the “Hamas” movement since 1989.

He was declared an official spokesman for the “Hamas” movement in 1991.
