Yesterday, Amman witnessed an exceptional cultural celebration titled “Fakhri Kawar…a creator, thinker, and human being,” dedicated to honoring one of the most prominent figures of Jordanian and Arab literature, the late writer, thinker, and parliamentarian, Fakhri Kawar, who formed a milestone in the process of thought and national literature.
The celebration, which was filled with prominent intellectual, cultural and media figures, including former ministers, writers, critics and journalists, confirmed the extent of the impact that Fakhri Kawar left on the Jordanian and Arab cultural scene. The participants spoke about his rich career as a writer, storyteller, critic, and parliamentarian who was concerned with his word and position. He was a bold voice in defending justice and truth. His personality mixed culture with patriotism, and thought with social and political action.
Engineer Anis Kawar, the son of the late man, gave a moving speech in which he recalled moments from his father’s life, recalling his noble stances and steadfastness in defending the values of freedom and creativity. He also announced the launch of the “Fakhri Kawar Short Story Award” in honor of his literary career and to encourage new generations to follow in his footsteps in creativity and national commitment.
What attracted attention at the celebration was the remarkable presence of a generation of thinkers and writers who were contemporary with Fakhri Kawar, who shared his position and the word at different stages of Jordan’s cultural history, in addition to a renewed youth presence that reflects the extension of his influence across generations.
The evening seemed like a collective loyalty to a man who lived the word with his free conscience, and wrote it with creative honesty and the responsibility of a parliamentarian. Fakhri Kawar became a school of thought, creativity, and humanity.
