Ammon – The International Committee of the Red Cross, in cooperation with the National Committee for International Humanitarian Law, organized on Monday and Tuesday, October 27 and 28, the “Sixth National Moot Trial Competition in International Humanitarian Law,” at the Jordanian Judicial Institute.

Law colleges from fourteen public and private universities participated in the competition, representing: the University of Jordan, Al-Bayt, Jadara, Ajloun National, Zarqa, Irbid National, Applied Sciences, Petra, Philadelphia, Jerash, Islamic Sciences, Amman Arab University, and Mu’tah, in addition to Amman National University.

The competition aims to enhance knowledge and respect for international humanitarian law, and to contribute to the development of teaching and learning methods in higher education institutions, by adopting a practical approach that engages students and stimulates their abilities to innovate and think critically on various issues of international humanitarian law.

The head of the ICRC delegation in Jordan, Jan Fredes, stressed that “this competition gains special importance today, at a time when the International Committee of the Red Cross continues its efforts to raise awareness of international humanitarian law and enhance its acceptance as a law that – when applied – saves lives and protects human dignity.”

At the conclusion of the competition, which was supervised by a jury that included a number of judges and legal experts, the Applied Sciences University won first place at the level of participating universities, while the Irbid National University team won second place, and the rest of the participating teams were honored in appreciation of their efforts and active participation.
It is worth noting that the winning team will represent Jordan in the 2026 regional mock trial competition.
