Ammon – The Director of Market Monitoring at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Atef Alawneh, said on Thursday that the Ministry intensified its monitoring rounds at the beginning of the month of Ramadan, noting that the Ministry had monitored, as of the afternoon of the first day of the month of Ramadan, 18 violations, most of which focused on failure to announce prices.

Alawneh explained that field observations showed stable prices, especially for poultry and some types of vegetables, with the exception of a slight increase in some items such as zucchini and cucumbers as a result of their high prices in the central market.

He revealed that the Ministry follows up on violations of failure to announce prices on an ongoing basis, stressing that most merchants are committed to the applicable instructions.

Alawneh explained that the high demand during the month of Ramadan was sometimes accompanied by a slight increase in prices as a result of increased demand and some merchants raising prices, pointing out that the prices of vegetables and fruits are linked to the season, and rise slightly if they are out of season, with expectations that they will decrease later.

He stated that the available quantities of poultry are sufficient and prices are stable, noting that production is heavy, which supports expectations of a decrease in their prices in the coming days, stressing that poultry prices have decreased in the governorates from their previous levels, while they remain stable in Amman.

Regarding the movement of markets, Alawneh pointed out that some citizens’ shopping movement is postponed until before iftar, with the exception of goods associated with the holy month, such as juices before iftar time.
