Sarrah News – The tourism sector in Jordan began the year 2026 with rising performance, driven by a remarkable growth in the numbers of visitors coming from the European continent, as data from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Central Bank revealed a noticeable increase in both the numbers of tourists and the total tourism income during the month of last January.

European market recovery Official data showed that the total number of overnight tourists and one-day visitors from Europe reached 87,943 visits in January 2026, achieving a growth rate of 17.4% compared to the same period in 2025. European visitors were distributed among:

• Overnight tourists: 68,867 people (compared to 56,159 last year).

• One-day visitors: 19,076 people.

Growth in general tourism income. On the financial level, the Central Bank of Jordan announced an increase in total tourism income by 4.1%, reaching approximately $708.5 million last January, compared to $680.5 million in the same month of 2025. This increase is directly attributed to an increase in the total number of tourists arriving to the Kingdom by 3.2%.

Analysis of income according to nationalities. Different nationalities recorded differences in their contribution to tourism income during the beginning of 2026, and the percentages were as follows:

• Europeans: topped the list with a huge increase in their contribution to income, reaching 56.9%.

• Americans: recorded an increase of 16.0%.

• Asians: 11.6%.

• Arab tourists: witnessed a slight growth of 3.0%.

• Jordanian expatriates: Their income recorded a decrease of 3.0%.

Foreign tourism (outside Jordan) In a related context, data showed an increase in Jordanians’ spending on tourism abroad by 6.2%, as the volume of spending reached $196.3 million during last January.
