Amman – On Friday, the Kremlin announced a new date for talks on Ukraine in the Swiss capital, Geneva.
The Kremlin said: “The next round of negotiations between Moscow, Kiev and Washington to try to reach a settlement to the war in Ukraine will be held in Geneva on February 17 and 18.”
The official RIA Novosti news agency quoted Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov as saying that the tour “will also be in a tripartite format between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Thursday that Kiev seeks to support US peace proposals to end the war with Russia, as President Donald Trump tries to resolve the conflict before the midterm elections in November.
Zelensky added, in an interview published by “The Atlantic” magazine, that Kiev is ready to hold presidential elections and a referendum on the agreement, but it will not accept an agreement that harms Ukraine’s interests.
Zelensky explained to the American magazine, “The method we chose was for the Americans not to think that we wanted to continue the war… That is why we began to support their proposals in every way that would speed things up.”
The Ukrainian president continued, saying that his country “does not fear anything. Are we ready for the elections? We are ready. Are we ready for the referendum? We are ready.”
Zelensky has been seeking to build good relations with Washington since a meeting in the Oval Office in February 2025 turned into a verbal altercation with Trump and his deputy, J.D. Vance. “Agencies”
