Sarrah News – Today, Sunday, the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Authority hosted the work of the specialized team of experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency to evaluate occupational radiation protection (ORPAS), which continues in the Kingdom during the period from February 7 to 16, in the presence of members of the Board of Commissioners, directors of organizational units, and specialized technical personnel.
Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, Engineer Ziad Al-Saaida, confirmed that hosting the mission reflects the commitment of the Kingdom, represented by the Authority, to protect workers in the medical, industrial and research sectors, which include radiological uses, and to develop the national regulatory framework in promoting the highest levels of safety and radiation protection in accordance with best international practices and standards.
For his part, IAEA Coordinator, P. Oker, from the Occupational Radiation Protection Unit of the Radiation Safety and Monitoring Department, praised the close cooperation with the Authority and the level of preparedness and institutional coordination.
He stressed that the results of the mission represent an opportunity to enhance worker protection, ensure the safe and responsible application of radiation uses in the Kingdom, and adherence to radiation safety standards.
This mission comes within the framework of the Authority’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the occupational radiation protection system and develop the national regulatory framework in accordance with international standards, and conduct field visits to a number of medical, industrial and research facilities, in addition to holding meetings with the competent authorities in this field.
