Amman Today – The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced the operation of the country’s new refineries at full production capacity, noting that this contributed to Iraq’s classification among the countries producing high-quality oil derivatives.

Adnan Muhammad Hammoud, Undersecretary of the Ministry, said in a statement today that these projects aim to enhance self-sufficiency in white petroleum products, and to secure the Iraqi citizen’s need for gasoline, white oil, and gas oil. He pointed out that this will contribute to achieving a quantitative and qualitative shift through the introduction of a number of advanced refining projects, including refining units, hydrogenation units, and projects to improve gasoline production.

He explained that the Salah al-Din Refinery 3 and the North Refinery 2 were opened with a total capacity of (140) thousand barrels per day, in addition to the introduction of the FCC (cofactor cracking) project in the Basra Refinery with a capacity of (35) thousand barrels, and a gasoline hydrogenation and improvement unit project in Kirkuk Governorate with a capacity of (11) thousand barrels.

He also pointed out that these projects contributed to the classification of Iraq among the countries producing high-quality petroleum derivatives, according to the Euro 5 standard, and the transition from the consumption stage to the export stage, in addition to operating the Karbala refinery at full capacity.

He stressed that the Ministry is continuing to complete and open the gasoline hydrogenation and improvement unit project at the Al-Samoud Complex, “Northern Refineries Company,” in the coming days, in a way that will enhance the quantities of gasoline production and cover the local consumer need in all governorates of the country.

The Iraqi government decided, at the end of the year 2025, to stop importing gasoline, gas oil (kerosene), and white oil, due to the local production of them reaching quantities exceeding local consumption rates.
