The “Global Climate Change Center (GC3WEFH) project” announced its support during the coming period for a group of pioneering initiatives presented by local Jordanian institutions of a civil nature.

The project manager, Dr. Wael Al-Dulaimi, told the Jordanian News Agency (Petra) that a group of project proposals that were submitted that seek to confront climate challenges and their negative impacts on vital sectors will be selected, and they will be funded and their implementation realistically followed up by local partners in Jordan.

Al-Dulaimi added that the project works within several axes and includes partnerships with prestigious international universities, such as the University of California San Diego, the University of California San Francisco, and Texas A&M University, in addition to leading Jordanian universities, such as the University of Jordan, the Hashemite University, the University of Science and Technology, and the Climate Action Association.

He explained that many initiatives were funded and supported during the current and past years, all of which paid great attention to involving local communities and refugees in designing and implementing environmental solutions. One of the most prominent initiatives in this regard is the establishment of a community advisory council that includes specialized people from local communities, as the council works to provide advice and contribute to improving projects and ensuring their effectiveness.

He stated that these initiatives have contributed significantly to finding solutions to some of the climate and environmental challenges in Jordan, including water scarcity, exploiting alternative sources of energy, and linking the impact of climate changes to health and food security, stressing that the project in general is fully consistent with Jordanian government plans in these areas.
