The representative of the electrical and electronics sector at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce, Hatem Al-Zoubi, described the market activity as “normal,” despite the unprecedented heat wave that has been affecting the Kingdom for several days.
Al-Zoubi said in a statement to the Jordan News Agency (Petra) today, Tuesday, that the market witnessed a normal commercial movement, as it was expected, due to the high temperatures in the Kingdom, that there would be a wide demand for household cooling devices such as air conditioners, fans and “freezers.”
He pointed out that various air conditioners and fans are available in the local market at prices less than 10-15 percent, compared to previous years, due to the decrease in shipping and customs costs by 5 percent, and the decrease in goods and materials in the countries of origin.
Al-Zoubi attributed the natural activity of the electrical sector this summer, despite the significant rise in temperatures, compared to previous years, to the weak purchasing power of citizens, the lack of liquidity and the high cost of living, which led to the reluctance to buy electrical appliances, especially refrigerators, except for extreme necessity.
